You are most likely wondering why I would be posting this on my website. Well, this movie really touched me. I haven’t seen a movie like this in quite a long time. The movie is about a young girl named Ruby who is the only hearing member of a deaf family from Gloucester, Massachusetts. At 17, she works mornings before school to help her parents and brother keep their fishing business afloat. But in joining her high school’s choir club, Ruby finds herself drawn to both her duet partner and her latent passion for singing.
All of the deaf family members are played by deaf actors and Ruby is played by an amazing young actress, Emilia Jones. In order to play this role she had to learn ASL, how to sing, how to fish, and she’s British so she had to speak with an American accent. She does it all perfectly.
